The top five qualifiers for the Crate/Late Model Stock 40 lap special were: (1) Jerry Owens 12.706 (2) Donald Johns 12.740 (3) Grant Helms 12.920 (4) Josh Putnam 12.976 (5) Ben Davis 13.019
Before starting our heat races we paid tribute to the 911 victims as OUR FLAG was flying at half staff. Lewis, our announcer, led the Mini Stock field around the track with the flag before this class was given the one to go sign. September 11th and ALL of our hero’s from seven years ago will NEVER be forgotten!
Justin Maxwell led the first three laps of Mini Stock heat no. 1 but it was Michael Blade four thru eight for first in a two-minute caution free race. (1) Michael Blade (2) Cody Martin (3) Justin Maxwell Heat no. 2 ran a three-minute caution free race with Michael Cates going flag to flag for the win. The Open Wheel Mini class ran a two-minute caution free race with four lead changes between three drivers. Timmy Woodard led lap one, Greg Love led laps two, three and four, Woodard again for laps five, six and seven but it was Burton Graham with the final circuit for the win. Michael Estes led green to checkered in the Modified Street heat for the win. (1) Michael Estes (2) Steve Yocom (3) Bill Lewis
David McGill led the first six laps of the Granny/Bomber heat no. 1, but it was Shawn Johnson with the final two for the win. The only caution came on lap three when Michael Kennedy got into Daniel Kelley on the front stretch. Feature Time!! On the start, pole-sitter, David Gentry jumped the start and had to take up the rear of the field, then on lap six he broke in turn two drawing his second caution (two caution rule put him out for the remainder of the race). On the restart, Mark Fields took charge and never looked back as he led the full twenty-five laps to claim the victory. The caution came early … lap one of the Mini Stock feature … as Jr. Roland got into Cody Martin in turn four. On the restart it was Michael Blade all the way for win number 11. What a race in the SPECIAL event of the evening as the Crate/Late Model Stock division took to the track with a field of nineteen cars. The first caution came on lap one as Jacob France got into the wall. The second and final caution came on lap two when Dwayne Oakley spun in turn two. On the restart it was Jerry Owens, who never looked back as he lead the full 40 laps of this race for the win. Wait … the top five have to go thru post race inspection!! Will it change any positions???? Yes, Owens was disqualified, therefore, Donald Johns took home top honors in the $2000 to win show, turning his win number to 9 for the season at Thunderhill. The Open Wheel Mini feature was almost a repeat of the heat with three different leaders and only two cautions. Caution no. 1 came on lap four as Greg Love spun Trevor Woodard on the back stretch and the second on lap seven when Timmy Woodard spun by himself and at the same time Tony Stutts was checking out the other side of turn one. Timmy Woodard led the first seven laps, Bradley Oliver led laps eight and nine but it was Trevor Woodard ten thru fifteen for the win. The only caution in the Modified Street feature came on lap one when Michael Kennedy caught on fire. On the restart it was Steve Yocom green to checkered for his second win of the season. It was the Shawn Johnson show in the Granny/Bomber class as he led green to checkered in a caution free seven-minute race.
