Maryville, TN - The 2008 class of champions has something most tracks do not see year to year. In the 2008 edition there were no repeat champions, showing exactly how hard the competition is at the Mountain Raceway year to year. Just because you had it last season does not promise a thing the next year. It was a season of young guns getting their first title, all the way to a seasoned veteran getting another championship after years of being on the road.
Mark Vineyard returned to the Mountain this year with one thing in mind, just have fun racing this season and hopefully be there at the end of the season. He was with it coming down to the last race between him and Roger Best. Vineyard would charge hard in the feature event and capture the super late model title
Jacob White has watched his father Kendall race at the area tracks getting wins and championships. In '08 Jacob made it his year, after getting a late start while waiting on his car to be completed, he was able to battle hard through the whole season and overtake his father at the last point race to win his first but won't be last modified mini championship.
Scott Webb picked up his first ever championship after fighting hard and being consistent all season in the ultra competitive pure mini class.
Young gun Jake Teague can be very soft spoken but that does not carry over onto the track. Teague captured multiple wins on the season and ran away with the sportsman point championship. Look for him to be a force to reckon with for many years to come at the Mountain Raceway.
The street stock class has become the most competitive class at the Mountain Raceway with as many as 10 cars that could win on any given weekend. But it could only be one man on top at the end of the season and that was the yellow #9 of Quinn Bender. This was Benders second season at the Mountain and he was consistent all year long being in the top 5 almost every race. All of that came down to the last race with a shootout between him and Larry Rudd. It all came down to the last lap of the race with Bender gaining a couple of spots to hold a very slim points lead and get his first championship.
Last but not least is the mini stock champion Alan Vanwhy. Vanwhy is mainly a newcomer to the Mountain and was just hoping to have a great season against the very fast Courtney team. Well he was able to do one better and be very consistent, finishing in the top 5 every week and was able to get his first ever points championship in his young racing Career.
The Mountain Raceway would like to congratulate all of the 2008 points champions but we also would like to thank every single driver who raced with us at the Mountain during the points season. Without all of you this would not be possible. The racing for 2008 is not over but now it just all out racing, not points on the line just wins.
