Pro Cup Championship Battle Roars into Rockingham

Myrtle Beach, S.C. - Drivers say it all the time: "I don’t points race; I try to win the race and let the points fall where they fall."

You hear it so often, it almost becomes hyperbole. But the statement will be anything but an exaggeration for Mark McFarland and Benny Gordon in season-ending Black’s Tire American 200 at Rockingham Speedway.

With one race remaining to crown the Hooters Pro Cup Series Champion, Gordon is clinging to a 27-point lead over McFarland. If McFarland wins the race and leads the most laps, Gordon will have to finish second in order to claim his second Hooters Pro Cup title.

Five years and 94 races later, the "Short Track Shark" strikes again

Kenly, N.C.-In the age of cradle-to-cockpit racing, veterans always have to answer one question: How long are you going to do this?

Jay Fogleman, 41, won’t have to answer that question anytime soon.

After 94 starts without a victory in the Hooters Pro Cup Series, Fogleman won the Dan Duncan Memorial Aaron’s 250 at Southern National Raceway Park on Sunday afternoon.

"The best thing about this win is that maybe my wife, kids and other people will quit asking me how long I’m going to keep racing," joked Fogleman, driver of the No. 4n Speedco/The Works Ford. "As long as I can do this, I’m going to be racing for long time. To know that we’re competitive, and still doing it with our own stuff, it’s rewarding and real important to me."

Newton, Iowa-Benny Gordon took the lead on Lap 169 of the Race2Recovery 225 presented by NAPA Auto Parts and Diamond Vogel and held off late-race charges by Drew Herring and Mark McFarland to win at Iowa Speedway.

"This might be the biggest win of my career," said Gordon, driver of the No. 66n Samuel Metals Ford. "I’ve won at a lot of short tracks, but this is different. This place is special."

Gordon, who started from the Awesome Awnings Pole, led the first 26 laps and the last 56 laps, but his sixth win of the season wasn’t a cakewalk.

Alan Kulwicki Memorial Race 2 Recovery 225 next Championship Battle

Myrtle Beach, S.C.-Benny Gordon won Round 1 of the Championship Series at Mansfield (Ohio) Motorsports Speedway by cycling into the lead on pit strategy and holding off Mark McFarland down the stretch. The move worked because MMP is track-position bullring.

But that strategy likely won’t work at Iowa Speedway in the Saturday, Sept. 20 running of the Race 2 Recovery 225 presented by NAPA Auto Parts and Diamond Vogel.
