By Mark Chisum As usual, well into Saturday’s practice session for the Cottonmouth 100, the large hauler pulled into the infield at South Alabama Speedway. After unloading, Augie Grill stepped into the cockpit and turned a few quick laps around the track and pulled back into the pits and put the car on jack stands. As usual, Grill was fast in qualifying, second only to David Hodges. But in the race, Grill had Hodges’ number, taking the lead on lap 82 and taking his second Pro Late Model Viper Series win in a row.

Austin, TX 9/2/08- So far the 2008 season hasn’t quite turned out anything to resemble that of the ’07 one for the Casey Smith Racing team. Lady luck was anything but on the side of the Texas based race team as they battled many nights just to finish the race with his #99 Rapid Disposal Chevy Monte Carlo in one piece. Now this weekend Casey will look to capture win number three of the 2008 racing season at the South Alabama Speedway in Opp, Alabama.

By Mark Chisum 2007 Modified Champion Lance Blacker picked up his first win of 2008 Saturday night. Blacker kept himself in position and took advantage of Heath Mills’ misfortune, and held off Brett Hanson to take the win. |

Austin, TX 8/5/08- The fans of the South Alabama Speedway were once again treated this weekend as Texas native and fan favorite Casey Smith won his second Viper series win of the season. Even after a short hiatus from behind the wheel of his Rapid Disposal Chevy Monte Carlo, Casey showed no ill effects of the time off behind the wheel by setting the fastest time in qualifying and then following it up by leading some 110 laps in route to victory.

Thursday, June 26, 2008 - It was many years in the making but Texas native, “Outlaw” Casey Smith was finally knocked out of victory lane at the South Alabama Speedway located in the small town of Opp. It took a race where track owner/promoter John Dykes placed a $500 bounty on any driver who could knock Smith out of what has become a second home for him over the years, South Alabama’s victory circle.
