On a night when Gulf Coast race fans welcomed Hall of Fame racing legend Red Farmer to the high-banks of Deep South Speedway, it was Ricky Haugen who stole the show to score on the track. Haugen, from Pace, Florida, had started from the rear of the field in his qualifying heat race and would work his way to the front with a rousing run through the high speed traffic on the lightning fast oval. Farmer, at seventy-eight years of age brought the crowd to their feet early in the evening as he rallied to finish second in his qualifying heat, closed in on the leaders in the closing laps of the main event to score a fourth place finish and was followed to the stripe by Tom Lohr round out the top-five.
